Magdeburg/Sülzetal 29.07.2020 – VGP Group, a leading European provider of high-quality logistics and commercial real estate, is developing a new hall for REWE Group at VGP Park Magdeburg-Sülzetal.
The newly to be developed park is located on a site of approximately 61 hectares and is expected to offer almost 290,000.00 m2 of lettable space after completion. The connection to the transport infrastructure is excellent. The project is located only a few minutes’ drive from Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, between the A2 motorway, which connects Western and Eastern Europe, and the A14 motorway, which will run continuously from Wismar to Dresden.
In addition to tailor-made solutions for large logistics companies, the park will also offer small units of approximately 1,000m2 or more for rent, suitable for logistics services, manufacturing and other commercial activities.
Just how indispensable the logistics sector is for supplying the population has become clear in recent months. The corona pandemic is an unprecedented illustration of the systemic relevance and efficiency of logistics. Its essential contribution to a strong economy, to the supply of private and public households became visible to many for the first time.
REWE will also be among the tenants from October 2020. The full-range food retailer will move into a 30,000 m2 hall as a dry storage facility as well as office and social areas from 05 October 2020.
Darius Scheible, Managing Director of the German subsidiary VGP Industriebau GmbH, based in Düsseldorf, says: “With REWE, a well-known player in food retailing is moving into the VGP Park Magdeburg-Sülzetal. We are pleased that our project near Magdeburg with its excellent transport connections and its strategically favourable location fulfils the decisive criteria for Rewe”.
The VGP Park Magdeburg-Sülzetal is one of 29 parks of the group in Germany, which operates in twelve European countries and is still growing. In Europe, the family-owned company with headquarters in Antwerp, Belgium, now operates 72 parks in 12 countries.
Sustainability and energy efficiency are central parameters for the commercial properties developed by VGP. The company has launched and implemented numerous initiatives in 2019 alone. These include the introduction of VGP Renewable Energy, a new separate business unit wholly owned by VGP N.V., to use the available roof space on VGP’s parks for photovoltaic systems and modern energy technologies. The company also aims to have all new buildings certified with the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) certification from next year. The VGP Foundation was also established in 2019.
