Sustainability in action: Drylock at VGP Park Hrádek nad Nisou now using solar energy
22nd May 2024, Prague: VGP, the European developer and owner of semi-industrial and logistics real estate, is committed to more sustainable and energy efficient projects together with its tenants. A prime example is the new photovoltaic power plant on the roof of Drylock’s newest hall at VGP Park Hrádek nad Nisou (Czech Republic), with an area of 28,000 m2 and output of 2,811.9 kWp. It was connected to the grid in May 2024. Sustainability and energy self-sufficiency are among the main objectives of the growing VGP portfolio.
The installation comprises in total 6,180 panels, each with an output of 455 Wp. This green electricity will partly cover the consumption for the production site.
In addition to the installation of photovoltaics, a number of other initiatives supporting the local ecosystem have been implemented in the park. One such initiative is the revitalisation of a flowering meadow, which includes installing bee hives, as well as building an insect hotel and stone walls for reptiles. Along with this, a retention basin has been built to maintain a constant water level. This reservoir has created a natural pond with stone paving on the edges that blends in with the surrounding landscape.
VGP also actively supports the local infrastructure and cultivation of the park’s surroundings in Hrádek nad Nisou. It has built a roundabout, a footpath 500 metres long to Oldřichov na Hranicích with a storm sewer and public LED lighting, as well as a new sewage system. During this construction, new fruit trees were planted along the road to Oldřichov and a noise barrier earth berm was created. The company also established a rest area with seating, known as “U křížku – Rychterův kříž”, serving local residents.
Drylock, a world-leading manufacturer of baby diapers and hygienic products, is the park’s long-term majority tenant. Since 2011, a total of five custom-built halls have been developed. The company currently occupies 116,000 m2 of manufacturing, logistics, and office space with the possibility of further expansion by a final 6,000 m2. Drylock is a rapidly growing company with headquarters in Belgium and additional facilities in Italy, Spain, the USA, and Brazil. Nevertheless, it operates its flagship production plant in Hrádek nad Nisou. Through innovation and sustainable production solutions, it meets consumers’ highest expectations for hygienic products even as it remains environmentally friendly.
