Mutti
When Italy’s finest tomatoes needed room for sauce, we created an irresistible recipe.
Mutti, the household name in all things tomato, will bring its produce from vine to vehicle through our new VGP Park Parma Paradigna. On 50,000 m² of covered surface right outside the city centre, the iconic Italian brand reaffirms its roots in Emilia Romagna while serving the European market.
Challenge
Engineering continuity in a digital supply chain
Building Mutti’s new warehouse in Parma meant aligning high environmental standards with the demands of digitalised logistics. The facility had to accelerate product rotation, ensure full traceability, and safeguard business continuity through highly resilient systems.
This required a state-of-the-art networking backbone: more than 140,000 metres of fibre optic cabling, dual data centres with independent connections, and WiFi coverage tested against interference from the nearby high-speed rail line. Redundant power, cooling, and fire-protection systems added further complexity, while the integration of CCTV, access control, and IP communications across the 50,000 m² site demanded exacting coordination. In short, the challenge was to design an infrastructure where efficiency, transparency, and reliability could operate without interruption.
VGP's Response
Seasoned experts meeting seasonal demands
By meeting the construction schedule, we fulfilled one of our client’s key priorities as it enabled Mutti to start the tomatoes campaign period on time. Merely 800m apart from the toll gate of the A1 highway, the property’s spacious and functional logistics layout could be capitalized upon as soon as possible.
Yet, the site has more to offer than numerous loading bays. Rather, it is a modern warehouse with special emphasis on sustainability concerns, carrying Mutti’s heritage to future technology. For instance, solar power enables climate-friendly processing of Mutti’s sun-fed tomatoes. Through noise barriers and environmental mitigation areas, preserving Emilia Romagna’s unique appeal could be reconciled with the demands of manufacturing and logistics. With charging stations for electrical vehicles, the site accounts for the full spectrum of requirements for modern industrial facilities. Accordingly, the site was certified with BREEAM Outstanding status.
