The Role

You will be expected to:

  • Take a hands-on role in commercial management, procurement, and cost reporting.
  • Oversee design and technical coordination, supported by external consultants where required.
  • Act as the key point of accountability for delivering projects safely, on programme, and to VGP’s quality and sustainability standards

Candidate Profile

  • Degree-qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong commercial background — ideally having worked as a Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager, or Project Manager with QS experience.
  • Proven track record of managing industrial/logistics projects from inception through to completion.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK construction contracts (JCT, NEC), procurement, and cost management.
  • Solid understanding of planning, design coordination, and sustainability requirements (BREEAM, EU Taxonomy)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Self-starter able to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities across commercial, design, and delivery.
  • Ambition to grow with the business and contribute to building the UK construction team.

Reports to: Construction Manager – VGP UK

Location & Travel
Bristol based with regular travel to project sites nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Take end-to-end responsibility for assigned UK projects, from conception through to completion.
  • Manage design development, procurement, construction, and handover in line with VGP’s specifications and UK standards.
  • Act as primary project contact with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and tenants.

Commercial & Procurement

  • Prepare and manage cost plans, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Lead procurement of subcontract packages, including tendering, contract administration, and variation control supported by external consultants where required.
  • Oversee commercial reporting (CVRs, payment notices, final accounts).
  • Negotiate and manage consultant and supplier appointments.

Design & Technical Coordination

  • Manage consultants through the planning, design and technical stages.
  • Ensure planning conditions, BREEAM/EPC targets, and VGP design standards are achieved.
  • Resolve technical queries between VGP’s design team and Contractors as well as coordinating responses to tenant-driven requirements.

Construction Delivery

  •  Oversee project programmes, risk registers, and site logistics.
  • Drive progress with contractors, ensuring compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Monitor site performance, conduct regular progress reviews with onsite Management, and resolve delivery issues quickly.

Handover & Close-Out

  • Coordinate QA/ITP closeout, O&M documentation, as-builts, and tenant handover, along side our onsite Management team.
  • Support lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement processes.
