KraussMaffei
When KraussMaffei engineered precision, we build their blueprint into reality.
KraussMaffei is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of machinery and equipment for the production and processing of plastics and rubber. Its range of services covers all technologies in injection molding, extrusion, reaction engineering, and additive manufacturing.
As KraussMaffei relocated its headquarters after 90 years, we engineered the injection molding machine manufacturer’s successful transition. One of the largest relocation projects in the greater Munich area since the airport was moved from Riem to Erding. On 211,500 m², its 2,500 employees collaborate as seamless as the machines they produce. Bringing together administration, manufacturing and a customer experience centre, VGP Park München highlights the firm’s local identity marked by tradition and technology.
Challenge
A century ahead: reconciling industry and ecology
Building a new site in Germany’s industrial motor Munich required more than competing for the most sought-after real estate. KraussMaffei required the construction of three production halls, one parking house, and one office building serving as their headquarters. Also a representative Customer Experience Center with event space and skywalk, and a company restaurant for 1,000 employees was on their list.
To sustain operations for at least the next 90 years, the challenge was to integrate natural areas and create a compensatory biotope.
VGP's Response
Moulding efficiency with Europe’s greenest standards
Moulding KraussMaffei’s new site into the vicinity of A94 motorway minimized the distance to Munich airport, which is now only 30 minutes away. The facility was equipped with rooftop PV systems supplying 12.5MW of clean energy, making it one of Europe’s largest. Together with green façades, EV chargers, measures for improved indoor air quality, and a canteen, these amenities ensure high employee wellbeing.
Validating the success of our efforts, the majority of the site’s buildings earned DGNB Platinum status, the highest level of this certification. Also, they contribute substantially to our progress regarding the EU Taxonomy on sustainable economic activities.
